No, I do not use cry-it-out or any variations of cry-it-out like controlled crying. There are lots of ways to work on your little one’s sleep and I choose to use methods that are truly responsive and gentle.

I draw from a diverse range of techniques to develop a plan that you feel comfortable with and confident in implementing. By understanding your child’s temperament and your values and beliefs as a parent, I will write a plan that will suit your family.

Working on sleep also involves so much more than just the settling technique. We need to look at various factors such as development, temperament, feeding and nap routines, bedtime, sleep environment, and nutrition, all of which contribute to healthy sleep habits.

Using all the background information I’ve gathered, I create a holistic, evidence-based sleep coaching program that is appropriate for your child’s developmental stage. This plan includes recommendations regarding settling techniques, the sleep environment, nutrition, nap schedules, and more, ensuring a well-rounded approach to improving your child’s sleep habits.
It’s completely normal that the thought of your child crying is upsetting – you are biologically programmed to feel this way! Crying is your baby’s primary means of communication, and when we introduce a new way of settling your baby, this is a change for your baby, and it’s natural for your baby to feel a range of emotions, such as confusion or frustration and to express this through crying. I will always encourage you to respond to your child when they are upset, and you will NEVER be asked to leave your baby to cry. Be assured that you will be in the room supporting your little one emotionally and physically while we work on sleep, and this is very different to leaving your baby to cry alone.

My approaches are all focused on supporting attachment, and focus on providing your child with the right balance of physical and emotional support so that they can feel secure knowing that you are nearby, while also giving them the opportunity to learn and explore independent sleep. My clients often say that they were pleasantly surprised with the process, and they wish they had started working on sleep sooner!

Newborns do not have the neurological capacity to settle independently, and they require a lot of hands on assistance to be able to fall asleep in the beginning – this is totally normal. However, I can help you establish healthy sleep habits for your little one by focusing on sleep hygiene, sleep environment, and age-appropriate settling techniques. This will lay the groundwork for a strong foundation in sleep as your child grows. My Hour of Power package is most suitable for newborns.

This is really up to you! It will depend on the sleep coaching technique we choose, as there really is a spectrum of strategies to choose from. We can take things as slowly as you like, bearing in mind that the slower we make changes, the longer it will take to see results. Gentle sleep coaching often takes between 1-4 weeks depending on you, your child, and the plan we decide upon together. This is something we will discuss in our consultation to find what is right for your family and your sleep goals.
